Re: Blinking back the tears.....

That looks more like a cemetery than a garden. You could make some nice little headstones with the names of the veg on them.

Re: How do I meditate

It odd but just deciding that I will meditate is making me feel slightly more relaxed already. Don't worry, that will soon wear off. Thinking about when you're going to meditate and how awful it will be will put a good ole pain in your neck. I try to do 30 minutes zazen on weekdays. You sit on a li...

Re: How do I link solar panels & wind turbines.

Thanks for the comprehensive reply Paul. Reason I ask is that I bought a pedal generator to go under my desk so that I can pedal while I work. I already bought a car battery without thinking too carefully. Then I bought a multimeter. At the moment, I'm using my car battery to recharge my shaver and ...

Re: How do I link solar panels & wind turbines.

Here's my system I presume those batteries are 'deep cycle' batteries? I wonder if you happen to know the answer to these questions... Is there any value in second-hand deep cycle batteries if you can get hold of them? Do they last 'forever' with proper care? If you happen to have bought a car batt...

Re: Raised bed height

One way to ensure that your raised beds stay moist, whatever their height, is to dig in lots of leaf-mould and compost, and mulch the top heavily. Then you won't need to water so much.

Ellendra, you accepted the goods, but were you more any more accepting of the products and services promoted as a result?

Re: Need your ideas please!

The reason why people still buy pens and pencils in spite of the drawerful of free ones is because the free ones are crap. They generally don't write properly. Wobbly, crusty biros and gritty but slippery pencil leads. Also you need to ask, how many times have you picked up a pen and thought, "...

Re: The elephant in the room... AKA... the American Election

Obama is already a war criminal. He has authorized the murder of several children in Afghanistan, and he intends to murder a lot more, both in Afghanistan and Pakistan. And what's more, he announced his intention to do this quite plainly all through his election campaign. Naturally, this will have h...

Re: sad anniversaries, how do you cope?

Why even think about it? There's no need whatsoever to torment yourself with what happened in the past. Anniversaries, whether 'happy' or 'sad' are a major cause of human misery, and they're totally unnecessary. Just because it's your wedding anniversary, do you have to be happy? Why not be happy an...

Re: Year round tomatoes ?

That's most inspiring. I'll have to try that next year. I note that the tomatoes in your pics aren't going upwards much. Doesn't that mean that you're getting a very limited crop? Also, how are the flowers pollinated? I assume that tomatoes need insects to do that, or do you do it for them? I tried ...

Re: Azada, good idea or what?

I used something similar for starting off two different allotments - similar long handle and similar tool angle, but with a four-prong, wide-pronged fork. I always had a hammer or big stone handy for whacking the prongs back into alignment after I'd hit a submerged stone. You shouldn't have that pro...

If you keep them in the same enclosure all the time without moving it around, doesn't the area just turn to barren mud?

Gordon Brown said it was up to the Army to decide whether to discipline him. “I think the sincerity of his apology cannot be doubted. It was a mistake, he has made the admission of that and once he has made his apology, I think the British people are good enough to give someone who has actually bee...

Re: But WHY shouldn't I ...

Germs on a grain of salt or sugar would die, because the salt/sugar actually pulls H2O right out of the germ's cell. That and the awesome effort the little buggers make shoving aside the massive grains of sugar blocking their way. (Thanks Ellendra. I think you're a person of much better character t...
