Any ideas on type of oil for a Mini Cordless Battery Chainsaw
Any ideas on type of chain oil for a Mini Cordless Battery Chainsaw Its got a primer bubble, which as it does not have a 2 stroke engine, it cannot be a fuel primer bubble. So this must be a pump for manually applying oil to the chain. Suppliers say use grease for the chain??, but the mini bottle of...

As a side issue, I have never understood how anyone can sell books for a 1p. I have bought lots of good gardening books that way.

Re: Treatment for cherry fly worms in the cherries
I always make my own Bordeaux mixture up. As a proprietary bought pre mixed tin costs a lot. Whereas the chemicals that go into it are so cheap.

Re: Treatment for cherry fly worms in the cherries
Yes, it is calcium hydroxide, I use it on the trees and mix it with copper sulphate for the vineyard, it kind of works suppressing the bugs on the trees, That sounds similar to Bordeaux mixture to me. Measure out 6 ½ teaspoons of copper sulphate and 3 tablespoons of hydrated lime. The lime should b...

Re: Our first quinces
Some quinces can be eaten fresh, namely Smyrna and Pineapple-Aromatnaya.
They are still very gritty, but perfectly edible when very ripe.

Re: Anybody been to Brogdale lately ??
Ditto for me, its about 200 miles away. But its a bit of a Mecca for fruit tree connoisseurs. So its about time I went.
But I do not want to waste a day, without being prepared in whatever way possible.

Re: apricot seeds
On a similar vein, I remember reading many years ago that apple pips were also poisonous with cyanide, but you would need to eat a whole cup full to have any reaction. Also that orange peel was used for wine making and the alcohol produced actually dissolved the waxy oil they were treat with on the ...

slightly off topic - pond liner problem
I have a pond that came with the house. The pond now has a leak. I know the leak is on a fold.
But after +10years, how do I know whether the liner is PVC or Butyl.
Would I still expect butyl to still be rubbery and stretchable ?
Any advice

Re: Cherries & Plums, though I think I know what the answer
It very much depends on the variety and location (where in the UK and where in the garden) About 50% of my almonds are now in flower, and they are in an north facing open field. Whereas my one almond up against a wall with wind protection and in full sunlight has been in flower for over a week. The ...

I cannot get any waste wooden pallets anymore ?
Does anyone else have the same problems. Been to my normal factories to pick up any waste wooden pallets. This time I have been told that I cannot pick any up, as they are liable for a £1000 fine. It would seem I do not have a waste carrier license and they I do not have a waste processors license. ...

Re: my first apple tree
Its not the type of cherry (or variety) its the rootstock its grown upon, you need to be concerned about in a small garden. Most are grown on Colt or Gisela5 rootstocks. There are others but they are not widely available. Colt will produce a tree up to 3m to 5m ish tall, whereas a Gisela5 will be ab...

Re: 'Wild' yellow Plums !!
If they are very very small (say max 15mm dia) then they are probably Mirabelle plums.

Re: Wood from woods!!!
Yes my woods are covered by a CSS Countryside Stewardship Scheme As part of my agreement with DEFRA now FERA is that all natural fallen trees must be left laying there, as long as not causing a hazard or is likely to cause a hazard in the future. Different however if I was to chop a trees down thou,...
