Hi - I have had both and enjoyed both. If you hang your game, you have to ensure you keep it somewhere reasonably cool, to stop flies laying eggs on/in it (same goes for hanging salamis and hams), like a cellar or cool garage. I think with road kill, beacuse you can't determine its origin it may be ...

Not sure about goanna - I had croc once and it was all a bit chickeny fishy... The pheasant was lovely, for anyone considering roadkill dining - it was warm still when I picked it up, so fresh (it was a rainy day, so can't say the sun had warmed it up, plus it smelled so fresh) and I plucked it and ...

Hi Mrs D'ville, Basically, treat ground elder as you would spinach and make a direct swap in recipes. Just remember to use the younger shoots, as the considerabley older leaves can produce a laxative effect. As for cheese, we make a ricotta type cheese, or Paneer type like what is popular in Indian ...

Hi - yes, after having nettles in a bucket of water for the last week, I can vouch for the smell - we thought the drains had collapsed! Still, will continue to do it and then contain the results.... The only reason I mentioned layering is because KellyB has only used grass cuttings so far - I agree,...

Hi Gareth, Get your mum reading these posts - we have 6 hens currently in our back garden and, just like others are saying, our 4 dogs make more noise - and they are all well behaved (the dogs, that is, the chickens are just naughty). Noise levels from girly chickens are actually quite soothing, or ...

Hi - It's like confession time isn't it  I'm only just getting the swing of it, but with regard to compost, a really easy rule is to remember that 'wet' stuff like grass and kitchen waste such as teabags and veg peelings and flower stems need to be layered with 'dry' stuff, like shredded, non c...

HHHmmmm..... just about to go and make a veggie prison. Looks like the little b&&gers will get through anyway.... Our ducks used to be really well behaved. Now we have chickens and they are cuckoo for anything that they shouldn't have. Nettles stand tall (although I'm drinking them in tea), ...

Ratty, You've inspired me. I'm off to plant out some of the veggies right now. That's after I finish constructing the chicken wire veggie-prison to keep the naughty girls out. And the elder flowers are out now, so it's cordial time this afternoon. Bang goes the housework again! Glad you got the napp...

And when I was a child I used to regularly pick wild mushrooms and be able to identify good from bad, but tha...

Hi Ratty, Ex-Batts are such a great idea - as you probably know, for all the bad they suffer, they are fully inocculated and therefore ready to live lovely lives with little else for their new owners to worry about other than that key moment when they discover that yes, we can run and scratch and ea...

Hi Ratty, Your signature is very topical for today. A canoe might have been more useful..... We've had a sod of a day haven't we? If I hear 'good for the garden' one more time..... I KNOW IT IS... but that doesn't mean I'm not sitting here damp and cold, after chasing chickens (hence my ish name) ar...
