I read somewhere recently that they don't need feeding at all, but the addition of iron allows them to take up nutrients. I've found leaf mould v. good for mulching and to keep the conditions acidic. I have mine in big vegetable oil drums scavenged from the curry mile in Manchester.

Asparagus bed

I have a small garden in Manchester where I try to grow as much veg as I can. It's more of a challenge than through necessity as I also have a fairly big allotment site... what I'd like to find out is whether you can grow anything in your asparagus bed once it's done its thing? I can't see why not, ...

I've been using them for a couple of years now and still unsure as to their effectiveness. Manchester is pure clay with a fair bit of rain - ideal for slugs and snails.
