Re: Rose and rose hip recipes

Thanks, that's really helpful. I was just puzzled because when they were in flower, as far as I could see they all looked the same. I'll give them a go with some of your recipes!

Re: Rose and rose hip recipes

I've got a question about how to know when the rosehips are ready to be picked. On a roadside near our allotment, there's a huge row of rose bushes (which had very strongly scented purple flowers earlier in the year), which is already covered in dark red hips - this seems a bit early to me. Most of ...

Can I eat seeds from all squashes? If so how??

Hi, I'm growing a mixture of winter squashes, mostly pumpkin & butternut squash but also some random saved seeds that I can't quite remember what they were... At the same time I'm buying tons of pumpkin seeds to put in muesli and other cooking. So I was wondering how to go about processing the s...

Cats - everywhere!

I'm having a lot of trouble with our neighbours' cats pooing in our back garden. Originally we only had one little kitten next door, and all we needed to do was make sure it didn't dig up anything edible or precious, using sticks/chicken wire/pepper etc to keep it off the soil. However, we have new ...

Toddler-wearing?

My daughter's now 20 months and I'm 4 months pregnant. When B was little I carried her in a Sleepy Toes sling (a very simple cloth sling, like for a broken arm) and she really liked it, so did I, it was quite versatile in terms of comfortable positions for her as she got bigger. As she started walki...

Re: Terry nappies problems with a toddler

Thanks everyone - right now the weather's so bad she's in trousers all the time anyway, so no problem. It was just handy when it was hot for her to be in a nappy and dress and nothing else, so if she did ask for the potty we could get there quickly and if she didn't, it didn't matter. Sounds like it...

Terry nappies problems with a toddler

Hi, I've been using terry squares with nappy nippers and Motherease outers with my daughter since she was a few months old, and have always got on really well with them - found them very versatile as she's grown and her diet's changed etc, plus the obvious fact of not needing to buy any new ones as ...

Sorry if I'm telling you all something you already know - I'm new-ish... - but have you looked at The Compact sites? There are two Yahoo groups - the original US one and a European one, the latter of which has much less going on - and a blog at sfcompact.blogspot.com. It's exactly what you're talkin...

Thanks for the ideas, I haven't looked at the Alfie books but had Dogger (by the same author I think) when I was a child and loved it. Annpan I think you put my point more clearly than I managed to! What I'm looking for is just to make sure that my daughter sees lives in books that resemble ours a b...

Books for toddlers

Hi, I was looking at the discussion about good DVDs, and wondered if anyone had any tips on good books for toddlers. Something a bit more specific than that, actually: books that have positive images of green lifestyles, which sounds really worthy but I hope you get what I mean. The only example I c...

Thanks everyone - and I wasn't exactly lurking all that time, just using the website without joining the forum! Marshlander, my daughter's 1 1/2 so not quite got the concentration span yet to grasp the whole plant-wait-grow-wait-pick-eat thing, but she does enjoy being out in the garden with us and ...

Hi from a new member...

Hi, I've just joined the forum and wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I live in London with my husband and daughter, and we're trying to keep gradually adding more good choices into our life (recycling, reusing, growing our own food, fair trade, freecycling etc) a tiny bit at a time - so this se...
