Re: Hayfever Help
I went to see my doc recently as my hayfever is so bad - none of the natural remedies help me. Seem to have got things tolerable now by taking one cetirizine last thing at night so the worst of the woosyness is at nighttime. During the day I use Beconase each evening and morning and Opticrom eyedrop...

Re: Bird song
On the subject of birdsong...Radio 4 have a new series coming up called "tweet of the day". It's a series of 2 minute programmes about birds. Ideal for the early birds amongst us - 05.58am each weekday!

If anyone is interested, some £lands still have seed potatoes - I saw Charlottes and Red Duke of Yorks today and Red Baron onion sets.

Re: What are you reading?
I'm almost embarrassed to say that I'm reading The Bad Cook by Esther Walker (she's Giles Coren's wife).
Very funny, quite sweary with a few tasty recipes. Think - Nigella meets Bridget Jones.

Re: Great British Sewing Bee
I've always admired people who can make their own and their children's clothes so I quite enjoyed it. Although I can embroider and do basic repairs/sew a button on/sew an invisible hem - my attempts to make clothes have always been disastrous! Nothing too demanding and the usual elements of "wi...

You could try dowsing for the well yourself. Cut up a wire coathanger and away you go!

Re: Bake Sale Coming Up And I Need Some Ideas:)
Try Mary Berry's lemon drizzle traybake - it is really easy to make and tastes lovely. I've made a few of them for various school events and they always go down very well. I use the foil trays you get in the £ shops to make mine so I don't have to worry about getting my tins back afterwards. Chocola...

Have you seen the Wartime Farm series?
They cooked quite a lot of wartime recipes from the Min of Food in the series.

Re: Ersatz
My mum, who was a wartime bride, used to talk about faux bananas made out of parsnip and banana essence. She used to make "banana custard" for the family with stale sponge cake, parsnips and Birds custard which wasn't on ration. :pukeright: I seem to remember an old thread on here somewher...

Interesting little article on coppicing and faggot making in the Central Brittany Journal.

I always think about the waste when people born the twiggy branches as a bonfire after felling a large tree.

Re: Richard III Found!!?
I watched and enjoyed the documentary on the dig and subsequent identification of Richard III.
Apparently, he had a very feminine build - very slender and fine boned. Of course, that reminded me of Tom Baker's legless sailor in Blackadder 2. "Arrrrrr, you have a woman's legs" etc...
