Re: afraid I will fail, need encouragement on a plot
I would just start in a small way, growing things which are relatively easy to begin with. You can always do more later on. Its meant to be a pleasureable things to do, so no use in tiring yourself out too much. Perhaps you could speak to the people at the plots and see if someone is willing to shar...

Re: Apple Cider Vinegar
Yes, you can buy it in a bottle at supermarkets. I get mine in a big plastic container for the horses, from horse feed or agricultural merchants as it works out cheaper.

Re: keeping chickens in a small garden
I have bought hens three times in the past week, and they all came from houses with back gardens the size of yours. Two of the three places admitted that they just did not have the room to keep chickens - but thought they had. The problem is if you have them penned in, it gets muddy, if its really w...

I wouldn't worry to be honest, its when they stop eating and stand in a corner with their eyes closed that I start worrying.Flo sounds like she is absolutely fine.

Re: Robbie the Llama
Yes, Marshlander, apparantly you can get £10 per kilo for their fibre as they call it. Its like putting your hands into a sheeps fleece, its so thick. A lady called by yesterday to say she had just seen we had a llama, and could she have some of his coat please as she made bags .....not sure whether...

Re: Robbie the Llama
Well, he may be keeping the foxes away, but for some reason he has taken to chasing the farm cats, and also poor Charlie the cockerel. They are used to mingling among my goats and horses, and it is a shock to the system being chased. I saw the llama try to jump on one cat, but he got away ok. I have...

Two new hens!
I saw an ad on a poultry message board, offering two ex battery hens free to a good home. Only problem was they were over in Staffordshire. I messaged the owner, and asked if he could meet me half way, about 10 miles away, and he kindly agreed to meet in a pub car park. Isn't it funny how you can me...

Robbie the Llama
I have got a new addition to my smallholding! A one year old Llama called Robbie. Travelled right down Leicestershire on Saturday for him, but of a struggle parting him from his mum and dad and the rest of the family. He had to go, or he would have got his mum and sister pregnant! A struggle at this...

Re: What music are you people into?
Well, being a sixties baby I suppose I should say the Beatles, but ....for some reason I do not like their music, although my Mum assures me used to be singing "she loves you, yeah yeah yeah when I was four!" I like Rock and Roll, all sixties and seventies stuff, Meatloaf, Def Leppard- go ...

Re: old tree lady is poorley
sending lots of good vibes your way for Jane. She is so lucky to have food taken in for her - hospital food, and drink for that matter is not nice. I am sure she will enjoy the fruit cake too. I try not to take medicine - its not nice when they pump you full of something with a strange name and you ...

Re: People's reactions to what we see as "normal"
We only have one vehicle, and thats necessary for the farm, and carrying all my feed, hay etc. I walk to work, around 4 miles. I enjoy walking, whatever the weather, and walk back. The man I work for, only walks from his front door to the car, and cannot understand why anyone would walk anywhere. He...
Re: egg theft
I have seen a rat take an egg. It scooped it up in its front paws, quickly rolled on to its back, and another rat dragged it backwards still holding the egg, and into a hole in the wall. They must be pretty bright to realise that the egg is easily broken. Wonder how it broke the egg to eat it. Brigh...
