Re: Birthday present - ideas please!

Oooo, yess, a recipe book would be great! (then he won't kick me off the computer when he forgets how much flour to put in a crêpe, lol). Would melt and pour soaps risk ruining a saucepan, or does that just not happen? My host family has a posh set, I wouldn't dare ruin them! A lock of hair would be...

Re: Birthday present - ideas please!

I thought of a personalised scrapbook of the two of you so far. Otherwise you say he likes cooking so how about going on one of Andy's food foraging courses or a cookery course? More good ideas, we're not really much of a soppy couple though, so I don't think a scrap-book is really his style. One o...

Re: Birthday present - ideas please!

That's a lovely idea, Rosey, unfortunately I am really awful at recording anything - in words or pictures, so a poem is a bit out of the question. I like the idea of images, might dig up some photos to sketch out (it is his 30th birthday, and since he has a facebook account, I could probably get in ...

Birthday present - ideas please!

Hey guys, Long time since I've written a post, but I've been keeping an eye on you lot anyway  I'd like to pick your brains on an ish-present I can give to my boyfriend. He earns more than I do, so he pretty much buys himself anything he wants, and he would appreciate the value of something ho...

Re: How Much Land to Support One Person?

I don't have much experience myself, but since you have no other answers yet, I thought I'd mention that a friend of my family works a veg patch that covers about a quarter of a (UK) acre. The soil is sandy, and not especially good quality, and there are some lettuces scattered around the rest of th...

Re: 101 Uses for Plastic Shopping bags.

I once crocheted about a dozen into a flip-flop sole. I stuck little rolls of baking paper into the gaps I wanted to use to thread the thongs in and stuck the sole between two sheets of baking paper before ironing. While it was still warm, I put my foot on it and pressed down hard to help it mould t...

Re: Cure or remedie for insomnia please

Is there any chance it's hunger waking you up? If you don't eat after 7pm and you wake up about 3am, that could be because you've gone at least 8 hours without eating. I used to find find that happened to me if I skipped dinner, and though I didn't feel hungry, after a little bowl of porridge or a b...

Re: Teaching English Abroad

Thanks for all the advice guys! I'll have a good look into all of your suggestions :flower: It seems the TEFL job market out here is fairly well saturated, so I'm going with one of the online courses for the moment, either something will crop up and I can do the CELTA/Trinity (or equivalent, which i...

Teaching English Abroad

Hi guys, I am a bit stuck on which Institution to get certified with, and I know there are a few people on here that are, so please advise! I've weeded out the dodgy-ish ones, and the ones I don't like the names of, and come down to 3 choices. If you have any suspicions any of the below are scams, p...

Re: What's your favourite breakfast food or recipe

...But I can very very rarely be arsed baking bread first thing, it is never soft and crusty and white but usually rye and dwarf bread-like in consistancy, and I usually over or under do the egg  What is dwarf bread? :? I like a fry-up, so does the BF (not the breakfast!). But I don't usually...

Re: Want to leave teaching and don't know what to do

I haven't read all of the posts, so maybe someone's already mentioned it, but have you looked into asking at a local Montesori (not sure about the spelling!) school? They need qualified teachers, but it is a VERY different system to the state schools. Worth a try? But good luck, just remember that y...
