Re: Muckpreading dilemma

Couldn't you just relocate the horses for a bit? Temporary fencing would be ok and it would save a lot of heavy work.

Re: Pigs - the Runt

Thank you both. I wormed them both yesterday and the day before. We'll see how he develops. I think the bigger one is a bit of a bully though. Typical older brother...!

Pigs - the Runt

I recently collected my two Berkshire boys and they settled in fine. We noticed on day one (they were ten weeks old) that one was just a fraction smaller than the other but you really had to look to see which one. However, in the two weeks that they've been here the difference has really grown. The ...

Millymollymandy (that's a mouthfull to type!) - surely if you just need a new prescription for your kine you can telephone your doctor and he will prepare it and just give it to you between appointments? Ours does - maybe we are lucky and certainly we've been here 14 years so we know him well; but h...

I've just found my French veg magazine and it says they love all weather, all soil types and are ready for harvest around November.

They also said planting 10 tubers was enough for a hedge for ever.

Not sure I want the "for ever" though!

I know this is a slightly ignorant question but when are JA's harvested?

Also how many are produced from each plant?

Thanks

Have you got a photo of this? It sounds fascinating. Why did you decide to do it?

Treats? Don't know but they seem to love all the seedlings in my garden!

My dog (bearded collie) eats the raspberries. She also likes tangerines but I don't grow those.

Fencing for pigs

We are taking delivery of our first ever weaners in mid-April but I want to get ahead with the fencing as holiday time will be here soon. Please can you tell me at what height the strands need to be (ie, highest and lowest) and what is the best type of strands. By strands I mean the electric wire - ...

Fig Trees

I was pruning our fig tree today. About three years ago we noticed the trunk had been chewed at ground level by presumably either rabbits or rats. We put plastic around the trunk, end of chewing. However, the trunk grew, the plastic split and now we have some shoots coming up from the trunk - I imag...

Guy & Zoe - I hope you didn't take my previous post as either criticism of you or plain out and out irresponsibility. I last kept chickens about 15 years ago and fed them scraps then and now the rules have changed "in my absence". I find the issue ridiculous but am happy not to feed th...

When we first arrived in France we were shown around a new yoghurt making unit on a farm very close to us. When I say shown around they had organised a viewing window because of course new rules meant noone could actually go in there (well, apart from the well covered, clean and scrubbed up yoghurt ...

But if your chickens roam around the garden (as mine are about to) and the compost heaps are also in the garden (as are mine) what do you do? Put up a "No entry to chickens" sign?
(I'm obviously talking peelings here, not meat)

There must be an artist here who could design this sign...?
