I don't know what 'green collar' is called in English only in French! It's where you get a green ring around the stalk which stays hard and unripe, although I find the rest of the tomato is just floury tasteless mush anyway. Even without the green collar I grew some lovely looking plum tomatoes but...

I'm a bit further south than you, and have also had interesting results from my tomatoes. I have always only had a hanful off them, as I grow them outside, and I guess we just don't have the temperatures for them. So this year, a friend gave me some seeds for San Fransisco Fog toms, and I bought so...

I find tomatoes too hard to grow in a hot climate. The only ones I've ever had success with are cherry tomatoes, because the rest have always got that green collar thing where they don't ripen properly and what looks ripe is all floury and horrible. Thank you to all, those are all good ideas that I...

Re: Hi From NZ

Hi Everybody, I been lurking for a while, and hopefully if I'm not too silly, you seem like you won't bite my head off, so I decided to post (even if I *am* Margo). Living in a house in suburbia with a small veg plot. Recently decided to give the square foot gardening style a try. Talk to you more ...

Hey thanks for all the welcomes. Yes I certainly do have tomatoes. Why do you ask? I have a post on organic tomatoes - some of mine are a bit funny and I am wondering why I haven't seen any organic tomatoes for sale in the supermarkets, and also why I never noticed this before! But not too many peo...

Re: The Naki - New Zealand

Hi there, I am a mum of two cute kids! I have a two year old girl who loves worms and hanging in the garden with me, and a little boy who is one and just loves his Mama and breastfeeding. I have recently got my garden humming along nicely (since about september last year). I find it very rewarding ...

Organic tomatoes?

My tomatoes are green still but have grey-brown blotches on some of them, which I throw away as soon as I see them. I don't want a diagnosis, but it got me thinking - I never see organic tomatoes for sale in the supermarket, so maybe they are just too hard? I will accept this if its so, I don't want...

Rubbish. They didn't give us fish and chips. Old Maui gave us the biggest bit of fish ever. And there aint no fish story that can touch that one.
.........I have no response to that!

But aren't *kittens* always so cute!

Gidday Good to see more quality on here. Too many Aussies here. Just joking though, they are all a good bunch here really. I'm in North Otago but am like you, a refugee from mud and mortgage in the North Island. I couldn't afford Nelson so came further south. You can learn a lot on here but must be...
