Re: Buy and sell precious metals?

Hello, If you're in the UK and you're going to get into gold, then I'd recommend Gold Sovereigns - Reason is, because they're still considered legal tender (face value of £1) - you don't pay VAT on purchase of them and you don't pay Capital Gains Tax. (also as Sovereigns are coins, some become colle...

Hello - I am newish here

Hello, I've come back to forum after a long time not posting! I am glad to see it's still active, and loads of great posts. So, just a quick hello to everyone, and I look forward to joining in any discussions. I'm currently building some raised beds, planting out some hops, and building a pizza oven.

Re: Make an Alotment Site.

Interesting. I had always thought that if you are growing veg, then it's agricultural usage, would an allotment be deemed different? I can understand it taking time for a local authority to give up some small area of land for allotments (when they could possible sell it off ) - but if a private indi...

Re: Would you kick up a fuss?

Oooh I've just remembered Raps :shaking: Where you played a card game and the loser got rapped on the knuckles with the cards. The kids used to stagger the edge of the pack into like steps, and rap with that edge. The losers could sometimes come away covered in blood. :shaking: Ah yes, I recall tha...

Re: Would you kick up a fuss?

how very annoying! wouldn't some gaffer tape have fixed them as a temporary measure until it was more convenient to get them fixed properly? I was for ever breaking my glasses at school... and tape seemed to be the preferred method my parents employed to fix them! The craze when I was at school was ...

Re: Says it all really!

That's just my point! For example we are in a position where we need to buy a car - unrelyable bus service, living in the middle of no-where etc - but instead of going out to buy and brand new fancy one on 20 years tick and paying twice for it, we are looking at buying a second hand one for what we...

Re: eBooks - yes or no?

I'm not keen on Ebooks - can't easily flick through them, - rely on electrickery to read them, - can't read them in the bath (well you could, but not advisable), - I like the smell and feel of real books, - books are great!!! I have so many books, and so little space! I guess one thing about e-books...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/foodanddrink/6684854/Scientists-grow-meat-in-laboratory.html here is a link to an article about it. The scientists extracted cells from the muscle of a live pig and then put them in a broth of other animal products. The cells then multiplied and created muscle tissue. They...

When I think of its vesitility I wonder why humans bother with nylon and other synthetic fibes, I guess it comes back to laziness, after all who can be bothered to work the land when a machine can make something for you. :banghead: The crazy thing is that if you want "plastics" then you c...
