Warty spuds

OK we've been diggin' up the potatoes. Most of them are ok, but some have little warts on them. What's up with them? Anyone?

Could it be scab? MMM had that problem, too - she found some website (see "spuds again" on the herbs and veg forum). Nothing to worry about. Anyway, if it just affects the skin, I never worry - if the worst comes to the worst, I peel them. When it gets inside the spuds it gets dangerous...

Thanks Ina,
The skins are only affected and only on some of the potatoes. I have just scraped the warty bits off. The skins are very thin and it's not a problem. I have eaten a load tonight and they were delicious (pots not warts!)
I reckon that's what the problem is. We mixed our own rather light compost with some very clayie stuff already in the ground, it may be that there was a rather dry compostie bit where the scabby spuds were.

No it's not like that thank goodness, I'll try and take a pic for you to look at. Mine are more like little bumps.
Thanks for the info tho' Muddy. Scary looking things, those warts!

Those photos are gruesome!
I dug up some more of my Bintje and got half a bucketful from 3 plants. All I'm trying to do is make some space to grow more lettuce but now where am I going to put the spuds??!!!!
Oh I know, more of Ina's delicious potato scones, even though I made them too thick so they were more like griddled gnocchi. They were much better cold actually! Spread with jam they would be really nice.

Griddled gnocchi? That might be a good idea... With some nice parmesan and herbs. Let's be creative!

Well, I have been making some very strange salads with white beetroot! We also had it roasted with the roast chook the other day. Still in two minds about whether I really like this veg or not!
My husband has been heard to mutter "strange but not unpleasant" on several occasions recently (griddled gnocchi scones was one of them)!

I have problems with "abnormally" coloured veg, too - somehow the eye seems to signal there's something wrong with that stuff. And then it doesn't taste right, either... White (and orange) beetroot is one of them, but also yellow tomatoes and courgette, green cauliflower, purple carrots... I've only just got used to purple sprouting broccoli!
What a creature of habit I am.

I wouldn't worry Ina but I have no problems eating anything, whatever colour it may be. I guess I am just a greedy guts!
Purple carrots? I'd like to see some of those.

Here you are, Shiney!
Isn't the internet wonderful... There are quite a few sites on that subject. Seems to be the original carrot colour.

So the Dutch are to blame! And what's Russell Crowe doing buying root veggies for Sainsbury's? Is his acting career over?
I used to buy soya "glop" pudding from the health food stores many moons ago, and way back the strawberry flavour was white. I just couldn't get used to that. I have a feeling the chocolate flavour was white too, but I might be imagining that one.
