Does anyone else here make jeans legs quilts? How about consolidating several old crappy t-shirts into one hip, hot, and happening one? Cutting socks off into arm warmers? What about transforming cute baby clothes into loveable pillows? This is a thread for sewing nuts to share ideas.

Jeans leg quilts isn't something I've thought of - what a good idea.

i remake things its fun, at the moment im collecting bits of velvety things as i thought it would be fun to make either a crazy patch work bed throw or a cloak or jacket.also im thinking about un picking some old evening dresses that i haven't worn for years and making them into something more practicale.

Its one of my hobbies!!
I made a patchwork quilt cover out of old teeshirts, it looked ok, but it needs deconstructing and doing again.
There are loads of online resources for deconstructing clothing. I used to go on craftster.org a lot, but i've been too busy lately.
I want to make another patchwork throw (i love patchwork) out of jeans and cords at the moment - i've got two pairs of jeans and one of cords. I'm going to use the bodies fo them to make bags out of - the pockets are damn useful that way!! Just add a flap on top with either velcro or a popper on it, and they're pretty secure too.

So glad to read about others' projects!
I just thought of another idea because of the plastic bag thread: jeans legs made into shopping bags!

How about the jeans 'bum' made into a shopping bag... complete with patch pockets.

This is a project I want to try sometime:

I can't remember which forum I heard about that on first but the same discussion also mentioned reusing old t-shirts by cutting them into two-inch strips, sewing the pieces together to get one really long strip, winding it up into a giant ball of yarn and using the biggest knitting needles you can find (20mm or so) knit it into a rag-rug type thing. I'll probably try that first as I haven't quite figured out how to use the sewing machine yet.

I like the knickers!!
Quite fancy making somw. if i can find somewhere to get some plain black and white bras, then i can make myself half a new underwear drawer! I have got loads of black and white tees that need reusing somehow (and i can't wear undies that don't match...what if i get hit by a bus!!).

I found a booklet the other day about craft that was free in a newspaper a while back.
It has a really cool rug in it. its made out of old teeshirts - its made the same as a wool rug, with the squarey grid fabric and the hooky thing. basically, instead of pulling through little bits of wool, you pull through 2-4" lengths of teeshirt and knot them.
Whn i made my teeshirt throw a while back, there were loads of necklines, sleeves and seams left, so i'm going to get some squarey fabric and make myself a rug for my bathroom. I've got loads of black and white tees to use, and i'm going to have black and white tiles. Hopefully, the rug will be soft and fluffy (like a mophead!), failry absorbent and washable.

Had a look at the crafters.org site. Ooh I'm very inspired.
Spent my lunch time hunting around the house for unworn/old clothes that I could recondition. The first thing I found was a pair of my sons trousers. They are a lovely fawn coloured cordouroy, that he has out grown.
I have decided to make the top part into a handbag and the legs into a jacket for my DD (7yrs). Wish me luck.
I'll need to just to work the sewing machine.

Yes, most definitely and using up other parts of the jeans for weaving-the thick seams make great mats, and making jeans into fanny packs and saddle bags and using the zippers from the jeans to close the fanny packs and pouches on the saddle bags.

OUCH!
... we call them bum bags... fannys are different things in the UK... you wouldn't want a zip anywhere near it

Thanks for clearing up the confusion Annpan. I was politely ignoring that posting waiting for a moderator to delete it. At least I know now
Isn't English a fascinating language? It's completely different wherever it's spoken yet most of the time we all understand one another.
Ha - just thought of another thread - see you later.

Always happy to help
I have been saving old worn clothing for ages... one day I'll get the insperation to make the things into new things... heres some current thoughts
Jeans into denim skirts - my jeans always get worn in the same place (where thighs rub

) So I have 3 old pairs waiting to get made into skirts or I might turn some into ...
Jeans into gardening aprons - with all those sturdy pockets for trowels, seed packets, shiney stones, lost and founds, etc
Big baggy Ts int smaller Ts - I stole lots of T-shirts from my brother (he's in a band and gets alot of cool freebies) I plan to one day make them skinny fit cool ones... or maybe tiny ones for bambina.
Forgive me... Just thinking out loud

Ok - can anyone give me some ideas please?
I have a pair of black trousers that used to belong to a suit. The zip keeps coming undone and the cat has pulled enough threads to make them look a mess.
I can't be bothered to replace the zip cos of the pulled threads. What can I make them into?
I really don't need any more handbags (that was my first thought as they are black). I can't wear them for gardening cos of the zip (that would be just too embarrasing) so I need another idea. They don't really match any of my decor apart from the black chairs in my dining room.
