I have a selecton of tractor tyres i inherited with the farm.

Some front and some back, some back with wheel in place.

cut the tyre in half - around halfway through the tread - not across the middle - put them tread side down - inside of tyre up and you have two home made animal feeders

Yeah but if i do that i ahve to find a THIRD cycle for my old cooking pots and quality street tins...:-/

I've heard of people using a stack of old (car sized) tyres to grow potatoes in, but I'm not sure what chemicals and nasties might leach into the soil.

If anyone wants to try this, we have a local scrote who keeps dumping piles of old tyres in the lane and on the farm.

According to permaculture principles, cut one side out and then dig a hole the size of the inside diameter of the rim, then line with plastic and sink the tyre in to the top - tyre pond! Grow water plants like lotus, water Chestnuts etc. That's another one.

Make a huge number of sandals - another one gone.

Make this absolutley ginormous and exceptionally tacky swan.

Place ona pivot and make into a kids merry-go-round.

There you are, almost all gone in one arvo

Tie one to a bit of rope, sling it over a tree and use as a swing. (i'd recommend a front one, but a back one would make an adult sized swing!!)

We used to have them at primary school to play on too, they were placed on the ground, and filled with concrete and used for climbing on, and stading on declaring 'i am the king of the castle'!

Fill one with sand and hey presto - sand pit!
Similar to Wombats - dig a hole, sink it, line with plastic sheeting and fill with water - hey presto paddling pool or ducking pool for mothers in law!!!

Almost completely bury a couple of them, leaving just a few inches above the ground. Then, make an insurance claim for that tractor which fell into an unexpected sinkhole during a recent downpour.

Sell them as giant hoola hoops, made from 100% recycled tyres!

Use them as 'bad driver protectors.' I saw loads of tyres partly filled with concrete to raise them off the ground by about a foot, then put around the base of road signs in Latvia - not sure why, I guess seeing the way some of the Latvians drive it's to protect the signs!
