Mum bought me a 'ginger beer making kit'. It comprises of: 100g ground ginger and 15ml Yeast.

So...i've got 3 Demi-johns off of freecycle, and i've purchased some bottles, a couple of fermenting corks (i'm going to try the ginger and lemon wine too, but i need to get some root ginger first) and a fermenting bucket.

I'm feeding the plant very carefully every day, and giving it a little swirl and a hug

Wish me luck! I've never had any success before!

if I hear an enormous bang from the Brighton direction, I'll presume her ginger beer has "gone critical"

it doesn't get bottled til next week i think, so everyone's safe at the moment!!

I've got a shed outside, so that's where i'm going to store the demijohns... when i've got the ginger that is!!

Got the ginger and lemons on Sunday...started the wine on Monday. I deni-john'd the lot today (spoonful of yeast in each demijohn right?!).

When i get home tonight i'm going to bottle the ginger beer. According to the instructions i have, i've got to add water to the liquid from the plant (keeping the solid stuff to one side) and then bottle, allowing the beer to bottle ferment.

I'll let you know in a week how the beer tastes.

How long til the wine should start bubbling? There was no movement about 10mins after i put it in the shed...

It shouldnt take long to start bubbling. Make sure the cork with the airlock is pushed a good way in. I waited for ages once with one of my wines, moaning it wasnt doing anything, then hubby came home and pushed it down a little further and away it went!!
