frozen cherry liqueur

Having not found any sloes this year I'm wondering about trying to make something with frozen cherries (shop bought). Have seen recipe for cherry brandy or cherry vodka though they don't mention whether frozen is ok. Also wondered about cherry rum... mmmmmm I love dark rum.....
Any experiences/recipes welcome!

Being frozen won't make a difference, but are these sweet or sour cherries? That will make a bigger difference.

link. I haven't tried any of them, but a few look very good - chefkoch is very good for liqueur recipes, it's one of the places I go to for inspiration. A lot of the cherry recipes are amaretto based which sounds different to those I can find in English.

They're sweet cherries. Which sort are liqueurs usually made from?

All the ones on the link I gave are sweet cherries (Süßkirschen). I'm sure you could use either, but recipes would be specific to get the best from the flavour.
Andy has a recipe for cherry brandy/gin (p.126, Booze for Free). I would just follow that and use the frozen cherries. I've started my sloe gin this year using sloes I froze a couple of months ago.. just put them straight in, still frozen. They'll defrost in the gin. If you defrost them first, make sure you save and add the juice.

I was thinking of buying this for OH for Christmas so if I get it this week I can have a sneaky peak at the recipe

Be wary if defrosting first, the fruit can oxidise (and turn brown) better to use straight from frozen; also sugars from frozen fruit will release better than fresh fruit. I found that if steeping for more than ten days the bitter almond taste comes through from the stones so keep tasting until you're happy
