Following on from 2 years ago where I propogated 200 or so "mock strawberries" this year I have planted from seed a Strawberry that is White when ripe, good idea it said, as the birds don't eat them, bad idea as you never know when they are ripe and hence just rot on the plant.

What a Stupid Idea!

dig them up march time much bigger and a lots easyer to get them all out so don't grow back
i love them so always leave a few in
not so sure people next door like me thou they have tons in there garden come though mine
but as they don't know what they are they just keep cutting down so grow back more each year
but as they are not nice people i will not tell them hehe

Sounds like they might be suffering from overcrowding too...

You are too funny!

Salsify - as with Jerusalem they now grow everywhere, AND they were useless skinny things, had to peel most of it away to get to the edible stuff, really not worth it.

I've also got the white strawberries. Excuse me while I run outside to check them......


........ no it's ok, they're still definitely green and hard as bullets. I guess slugs are colour blind

Apart from that, I offer any plant that can't stand up for itself in these high winds. The garden's looking a bit flat at the moment.

I'v also got seeds for the white strawberries! not sowen them yet though.

Do the stems show any changes as they ripen? On the strawberries that grow at my parents' house, once in a while the berries will only turn red in one tiny spot while the rest stays white, and I've noticed that when it's ripe-but-white the stem changes. It gets a little darker and looks dry.

Just a thought.

Stupid gardener rather than plant really but I have a perenial yellow daisy that's about 5' tall - very pretty but it runs and runs - crowding out everthing else. Then there's the hardy geranium that came in a packet of mixed geranium seeds. It selfseeds profusely with 100% germination and long tap roots. It's every where, even the margins of the surrounding cornfields and the lawn (makes a change from daisies) in the hay meadows and in the verges where it actually looks very pretty with the cow parsley and rapeseed. No matter how many I pull up, more come through. It's pretty but swamps its neighbours.

I also had JA's coming through the pavements in my old garden. Ooh yes and I've just remembered a friend who split up what she thought was wild strawberries and planted them all round the garden, only to discover it was ground elder! ooops!

Stupid peas using brambles for support instead of the lovely frame I made them. First chance I've had to go tidy the garden. Managed to save them all though, even if they did lose a few tendrils.

I'd also like to say I have some very clever tomato plants, who have grown through the brambles and only have leaves on the parts of the plants above the brambles. They now look quite naked.
