There are two bushes in the garden placed at the back of the garden. I seldom prune them, but they can be trained into almost any shape. They would probably make a good hedge. Forsythia is not native to Canada, but thrive in my Zone 5. They are a first sign of Spring and turn green in about three weeks.

You beat me to it OJ, I was about to say the same.
Difficult to see on a small picture, but the flowers look far too big and the wrong shape.
Plus I just noticed the green stems instead of brown, so I reckon you are spot on.

I actually couldn't tell from the first photo! Just looked a bit spindly.
As for Durgan's forsythia, it's HUGE!

Well done Durgan. Do you prune it? I do mine every year and about every 3 years give them a radical prune taking out a lot of the older wood down to as near to ground level as possible, so mine are a bit smaller than normal this year.

The forsythia is not pruned, since it is in an innocuous location and interferes with nothing. I will check this year for dead wood and remove if necessary.

That's interesting, as it just goes to show that pruning is not necessary for a good display of flowers.
