Forsythia

There are two bushes in the garden placed at the back of the garden. I seldom prune them, but they can be trained into almost any shape. They would probably make a good hedge. Forsythia is not native to Canada, but thrive in my Zone 5. They are a first sign of Spring and turn green in about three weeks.

You mean like this

Nice bush
Just because you see two eyes shining in the jungle at night, do not think that the worse thing that could happen is that you are about to be attacked by a tiger. It could be two one-eyed tigers.
Re: Forsythia
Don't like to be a party pooper, but that looks a bit more like Kerria Japonica.(MMM will know for sure).
Re: Forsythia
You beat me to it OJ, I was about to say the same.
Difficult to see on a small picture, but the flowers look far too big and the wrong shape.
Plus I just noticed the green stems instead of brown, so I reckon you are spot on.

Re: Forsythia
The forsythia is not pruned, since it is in an innocuous location and interferes with nothing. I will check this year for dead wood and remove if necessary.Millymollymandy wrote:I actually couldn't tell from the first photo! As for Durgan's forsythia, it's HUGE!Well done Durgan. Do you prune it? I do mine every year and about every 3 years give them a radical prune taking out a lot of the older wood down to as near to ground level as possible, so mine are a bit smaller than normal this year.

Re: Forsythia
That's interesting, as it just goes to show that pruning is not necessary for a good display of flowers.
