Dave's new book

Post: # 233028Post RuthG »

Have just bought and started reading Dave's new book, 'Grow Your Food for Free(well almost)'. So far what I have read is excellent and I am pleased I bought the book.

However, I have to take issue with something said. On page 24, he says "Contrary to popular belief, vandalism is rarelyt planned and rarely malicious".

I have lived in my home for nearly 16 years and in that time, I have been subjected to a campaign of torture brought about by mindless vandalism - from trampling the rhubarb (and dont tell me they were just climbing over the fence - therhubarb patch is 15 feet long - they had to walk the full length of it!); to burning down my chicken house (fortunately no chickens at the time); to shooting holes in my windows all round my house - 15 holes in 7 windows - try telling me that wasnt planned! In all, there have been nearly 50 incidents for which we have found it necessary to call the police in those 16 years.

Sorry, just had to rant! There is nothing special about me or my family or my home. We are just targets! And it is sytematic, planned and malicious to the core.

Sorry, got no advice, just sympathy. It must be a nightmare. What do the police say each time? I heard of someone who was being harrassed so much the police agreed to put up CCTV to identify the culprits, maybe it's worth a try? hang in there x

Oooh, it sounds like you've been having a pretty tough time of it, although it sounds like a bit more than vandalism! So many potshots at your windows sound scary and dangerous. Have the police been able to help at all? We had a break-in several years ago (one off, different scenario I know) - the Victim Support Unit were fantastic and the Prevention Officer came round and gave us all sorts of suggestions to make the place more secure.

To be fair to Dave he does say "rarely" not "never" - I don't think he could foresee your circumstances.

Hope you get your problem resolved, soon. :hugish:

Police have been next to useless. When we caught a young man discharging his gun in the garden, it took them 4 hours to get there! Whatever haoppend to armed response units. If I had lived in Manchester, they would have been there in 4 minutes flat! Another time they turned up 18 hours after the event - also in=volving guns. And no, I dont live in an inner city - I live in the countryside!!

The lad (aged 18) was eventually prosecuted, but he only got 16 hours' community service (not his fiorst offence). We couldnt prove he had done the house windows, so he got off scott free with that one - and the burning of the chicken house. The police were supposedly building a dossier to enable them to get an asbo for him, but they took so long about it, our firearms crime dropped off the list ebcause they said they couldnt use anything that was older than 6 months.
