Pre-booked train ticket disaster

Post: # 232534Post chickenchargrill »

It's my OH's 30th coming up, it took a while to come up with ideas for something special. But when I ran them all past him, he wanted to go down south to visit his family for the weekend. Money is tight and we needed to get one dog, one baby, 2 girls and us down there. He rang up his dad to see if he could help out, which he could, he'd come up to pick dog, OH and eldest and drive them back down and baby, me and Elle would go on the train. Left it a couple of weeks before buying the tickets, in which time OH spoke to his dad a couple of times, all okay. Forked out £75 last Sunday for the tickets.

Day after buying them, OH's dad phones up and says we should all get the train down. Train tickets are now £100 for 1 adult and 1 child, which we just can not afford on top of the £75. OH won't go down by himself as wants to be with me. I can completely understand FIL not wanting to do the whole journey, but couldn't he have told us that from the start rather than saying he'd be fine doing it and then backing out :banghead:

Anyway... the point of this post is we can not get a refund on these. They're in my name but could someone else use them? Would I be okay offering them on Freegle/Freecycle? Or if anyone on here happens to want 1 adult and 1 child return ticket going from Derby to Weston-Super-Mare and back again over BH weekend...
