Forgery

Post: # 232075Post chickenchargrill »

Need a quick rant. Went to get money out this morning, enough to cover bus fare for the week, my eldest's drama group and a little for food. Got bread and milk from the local shop, was given a tenner in with the change. Went to use said tenner this afternoon for some bits from the supermarket and it's an effing forgery! Used the self-service till, wouldn't take the tenner, guy came to help, said it looked okay to him, had a bit of a tear and that was why it wouldn't take it. Would have to check it was okay to swap with his supervisor who ran it through their machine and found out it's a fake.

So, with all the being careful with money, I'm ten pounds down without it even being my fault and without the bits I wanted from there as I only took 15 out with me so I didn't overspend. I still have this tenner as I didn't have chance to take it to the bank. Which means at some point I've got to make a journey especially to go hand it in. :angryfire:

Grrrr I feel your grievance, how annoying. Could you complain to the shop that gave it to you?

That local shop has your real tenner. Go back there with the forged one and buy another loaf and a pint of milk and pay for them with the forged tenner. They'll give you the change from your real one.

As they couldn't tell it was a forged note when they gave it to you, I don't see how they could tell it's a forged one when you give it back to them.

Mike - My other half did exactly that when he got in from work, well beer and pizza to make up for our pants day. My conscience wouldn't allow me to spend a tenner I knew was fake.

My mum had this problem when a ATM machine    handed her a forged £20, she then took it back to the bank a day or so later when she had tried to spend it, but couldn't and they just took the £20 off of her and she never saw her money again. I'm afraid I'm with MKG on this. Take it back to the shop and buy something so you at least you have the change.

It was down to the shop owner not to accept the forgery in the frst place, it certainly never should have been passed on to a customer. Fight :angryfire: with :angryfire:

Although I loathe to admit to watching daytime tv Don't get done get Dom was on yesterday and they withdrew £1k in £1 coins out of each of the five top high st banks and the average forgery was 28 per £1000 at the mint but with the banks it ranged between 29 and 37. The "experts" said to go to the police and hand them in so they could flag up the issue and do some targetted investigation... Ok, I'll do that....

From memory in 2006 there was a minimum of £1.4 billion of forgeries in the UK ( cash ) financial system. It's probably got worse since then.
Member of the Ishloss weight group 2013. starting weight 296.00 pounds on 01.01.2013. Now minus 0.20 pounds total THIS WEEK - 0.20 pounds Now over 320 pounds and couldn't give a fig...

I appreciate your point, CCG, but your conscience, in this instance, is misplaced. It was THEM who gave YOU the forgery. All your OH did was put the problem back where it belonged.
