Ummm.
Bit worried about the large snake in my Pond, we had a kids party here with 12 kids on Sunday.
Hate Snakes.
Any advice, should I be worried, what can I do?
No Poll though

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.
Re: Adders
Boboff, that one looks remarkably like a grass snake. Harmless unless you are a frog, although it can look and act a bit frightening.
It will almost certainly move on when it has cleared your pond of frogs.

I can't tell from the photo, but you say it's a) large and b) swimming in your pond. Excluding rather exotic escapees, that would make it (the massively most likely possibility) a grass snake. Lovely animals, completely harmless. When I say harmless, don't try to catch it with your bare hands - they're quick and will probably avoid you with consumate ease but, if scared, can deliver a very worrying grip on your hand (you know, the point at which you begin to worry because there's a snake gripping your hand with its jaws, and MKG said it was harmless!!!!!!!). It would also try to nut you

Ah - just saw the second photograph! That there IS a grass snake (no V on the back of its head).
You lucky bugger!

Enjoy your guest, Boboff.
It's been one of my dreams to find a snake in my garden, but it's not really likely now as we're moving to snake-free Ireland.

Re: Adders
Yep, I'd agree that it's a grass snake.
Years ago, someone told my youngest that they had caught a grass snake.... which meant she then went to that area every day for nearly 2 weeks to catch one for herself! She was 9 at the time
And after 2 weeks, she still didn't catch one, but had 3 slow worms instead!
A few years after that she bought herself a couple of pythons and a corn snake & if she could persuade her boyfriend to let her, she'd go buy dozens more!
Shame she's up in Blackpool, she would have come & caught it for you, with pleasure!
