Tea bags / coffee grinds

Ok folks, I know I could probably google this but I'm going for the more personal way, [ and i'm being lazy].
I was in the hospital the other day and the costa coffee shop has a notice telling people to ask for the grounds for their gardens. Someone on here mentioned in one post about tea bags so what is the benefit of using these waste products ?

Sounds good to me - more raw materials for the compost heap! and nicely minced up too.

..... and the caffeine in the grounds and teabags kills the slugs too ..... let the good times roll!

I hear coffee grounds are good for acid-loving fruit (and presumably, any acid loving plant) as a mulch/fertilizer, as it helps to keep the PH low.
To be honest, the rate we drink coffee at our house I should probably put up a sign offering our grounds too!
