Oooh I thought this was going to be a nice recipe! I'm so glad I bought an ice cream maker as the difference between home made and shop bought is miles apart - and I know what's gone into mine!

As a teen, my hubby worked bottling soft drinks. Someone spilled the cola concentrate on their arm and had a brown arm for months until enough skin sloughed off.

here's an experiment for your kids it will put them off coke for life, get a glass jar and a polysteirene cup in the glass jar put a galvanised nail and fill with coke. also put the coke in the poly cup on a bowl and have them watch how long it takes to eat through the cup and the nail. then suggest that they think about what it does to their stomachs.

As parents my wife and I try to make or grow as much of our food as we can, as there are so many shocking things being put in our foods. same magazine different issue (Organic NZ) article on pesticide residues in non organic flour and as such our breads, cakes, pies. Hormones and steroids in meat and poultry, as well as being fed on GE crops (thankfully not in NZ yet).

Our neighbour is a vineyard who has spraying done and the crop duster starts spraying over our property so he is already spraying when it reaches the vines, not too happy about that, will be talking to council as I don't want the stuff falling on my children when they are outside playing.

I tell you If I thought I could swing it I'd call for a world-wide ban on artificial colours not to mention a ban on non-organic pesticides, herbicides and fertilisers. our children deserve better!!!!! :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire:

Oh I was thinking it was going to be a real ice cream recipe - I hate additives, why are they in everything.

I quite agree that artificial additives should be avoided whereever possible. What is wrong with natural ingredients? But it's easy to become over paranoid. Many natural ingredients have additive numbers and perfectly safe foods have other uses too. Salt, for instance, is a very effective weedkiller. Another reason not to eat too much salt, it'll kill off any weeds growing inside your insides

for years my mother was told that there was no possible way I was having full on allergic reactions to azo and coaltar dyes in food, so she took initiative and cut them out of my diet.
as a teen I rebelled and ended up in anaphalaxis which she controlled with antihystemines. still the doctor wouldn't believe her.
As an adult I now know the main colourings to stay away from and heaven forbid sophie gets hold of any!
