I always find this growing on a tree close to my house. It looks like Chicken of the Woods but I am no expert and wanted to be sure.

What do you reckon?

Thanks...it was taken with my iPhone!!

If it is Chicken of the Woods....what's the best way to cook it?? I will wait for complete confirmation...I also understand that it can have an adverse effect on some people?

Ever had lemon chicken? Just use that recipe and substitute the fungus for the chicken. Gorgeous!!!!!!

Unfortunately, it's at that point I discovered that Chicken of the Woods and I don't get on. So yes, it can have an adverse effect. But so can any fungus, so there's only one way to find out. I do know that it's a minority of people who react to this one and, although the results are spectacular, you're certainly not going to be harmed in any way apart from being very embarrassed and having some cleaning up to do.

Go for it, I'd say.

Mike

lol let's hope there is no cleaning up to do!!

So it seems likely to be Chicken of the Woods then? Are there other fungi it could be?

Sadly it can disagree with me too. You could play it with caution at first by discarding the part closest to the tree and also any very soft flesh along the outer edge (possibly freeze these bits until you're happy). If you don't feel at all nauseous you'll most probably be fine.
As far as I know there's no other sulphur coloured bracket fungus to confuse it with.
