nobody tell him it's not cream cheese!!

Post: # 199789Post mrsflibble »

I've had to try going lactose free again because I'm sick of the stomach trouble. 2 days in and I'm on top of the world. I had a milkshake yesterday made with lactose free cow's milk, it didnt send me running for the loo so i was happy. trying the lactose free cheese style stuff next week.

I'm missing boursin, but it's a small price to pay.

anyway, I've made a carrot cake for this evening and topped it with cream cheese style topping made from silken tofu. it tastes pretty much the same as the traditional cream cheese icing; but jim has an irrational hatred of tofu. he won't even try the stuff lol! mwahahaha. so, I'm going to feed him cake THEN tell him it's tofu.

wish me luck ;)

Glad the lactose free stuff is working for you. I get stress induced IBS and if I am having a bout then anything fun will trigger a world of pain. I sympathize! I heard that lactose free dairy is also good for weight loss so you might get double benefit!

  Here's to hoping he doesn't notice. i usually use the same trick on my lot. feed first explain later. When I met my husband he would only eat croissants, crisps and coke. Now the only thing I have to disguise is mushrooms and prawns.

The rubber mallet strategically placed above his head at every meal helped too.

It doesn't always work. My wife once served one of my sisters-in-law a goat-cheese topped pizza. She loved it UNTIL she found out what the cheese was. Some people are just too fussy. Glad your attempt to broaden tastes worked though.

The thing is Mrs F, I bet he knew all along you had some trick up your sleeve...us fellas are smarter than you'd give us credit for! Anyway, if he changes his mind you can always send the cake to me...it looks very toothsome!

you need a packet of marzipan (i recommend asda's own, no nastieswhen i bought it last xmas), and if it's yellow marzipan you need a bottle of pink food olouring (again asdas) or if it's white marzipan then use an orange or a yellow and red. you'll also need either blue or green food colour too.

ok, take a blob which would approx fit inside an espresso cup. or an egg cup. whatever's easiest.
dust your hands with icing sugar. what do you mean i dint mention icing sugar? oh. ok. you need that too. so. yeah. dust the handies. roll the ball of marzipan until it's ball shaped, flatten out and then using a cocktail stick or skewer, dip into the colouring and dot the colour onto the mazipan. knead in using icing sugar to stop getting sticky. you may have to do this a few times before you like the colour. set aside. wash hands.

take a blob half the size of the first blob, do the same preparation and dot with the green (or blue) food colour. I used green even though i had yellow marzipan. repeat as ecessary.

then wash hands. dry. dust again and take a pinch of the range marzipan and roll it in your hand until it's carrot shaped. lay a knife gently in to make the creases. jab the top with a skewer/cocktail stick/leather bradawl/darning needle/non-burnt end of a burnt matchsharpish pencil wrapped in clingfilm etc to make an impression. now take a teeny tiny amount of the green, roll into a sausage and force into the hole in the en of your carrot. you can leave it like this or snip it into three with scissors, not cutting all the way down.

there you go. carrot.
