not much growing!

damn this darn weather! nothing much is growing ( compared to last year) im lucky enough to have a few broad beans in, some runner beans and cougettes and a couple of squash plants.

all of my tomatoes are growing soo slowly :( last year i had an incredible surplus of plants and now i have 3 very small cherry tomato plants as all the rest have either not germinated or died off. im tempted to go buy a few plants but im not sure.

the peas have failed im on my fourth sowing, loo roll tubes havent worked ( did for the broad beans and to get the squashes started  ) tried pots, seed trays and every time they failed to germinate.

cabbages havent even bothered to try to grow either and the broad beans are half the height they were last year but already flowering.

damn it whats wrong with this year?

Cheer up !
I assume that you will be getting the same weather as me, I have been reliably informed that our weather will be warm and sunny by the middle of next week with the occasional shower, but more importantly a hellova lot warmer at night.

See .... http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/7da ... e=plymouth especially from next Wednesday onwards

Well hooray after a little bit of sunshine my sweet peas have started to germinate (of all the things I sowed in pots in the cold frame when I came back from holiday) and my pea peas in the veg patch have got flower buds on!

Apart from that, nothing's growing.

But the blackfly and ants have found my broad beans already but this year I am ready and armed with my jam trick. *evil grin smiley*

Toms I bought from the garden centre so they're growing. Sometimes it's worth cheating, especially if you haven't got a greenhouse and all you can raise indoors is spindly pathetic things.

Hi, I have similar problems. I grow most of my veg by germinating indoors, putting into pots and growing on in coldframe/greenhouse and then planting out on the allotment. Indoors I've got broadbeans, peas, french beans, courgette, cucumber and butter nut squash all desperately needing potting on and moving outdoors, but all my stuff outdoors brassicas, leeks and corn just aren't growing and are not ready to be planted out. Arrggggh

I think the brassicas and leeks are going to have to rough it and go outside. Lovelly day today let hope this weather holds.

Harasimow I woul bring your sweetcorn inside to germinate as I think it needs more heat - I've got mine in a propagator. Leeks are hardy and don't need to be in a cold frame - mine all germinated in the ground weeks ago.

better luck today!! i found a very large patch of wild strawberries while i was out and about on my walks  im tempted to go back in a week or too and see if theres any about!

picked up a few ramsons and nettles too so at least while i wait for the veggies to start i can have the odd non-shop brought meal.

but if im honest im excited about wild strawberries :-)

I've had really mixed results too, some things have done really well and others have really suffered in the mixed up weather. My tomatoes have all died off but my kale seems to be enjoying the colder weather.
