When I moved into my house there was a long and slightly stiff hose pipe in amongst all the other junque, so I stored it away and have actually had to use it a couple of times now after 2 weeks of no rain [who would have thought, altho it did rain the night after I watered !

Anyways, altho I inherited a useful hose, it is a royal PIA to store and I am not going to spend £30 on a fancy roll up thingy, much as I want one. Currently I am wrestling the beast into a large gorilla bucket, most of it goes in somehow and storing it over a water barrel, but it is difficult to do [a good dis-incentive to use it I guess] and messy.

So..... Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions to my dilemma ? I had thought of getting a couple of old bike wheels and fashioning some sort of roll up thingy [good son project! ] but not sure if it will work. Just need a simple, tidy and easy to make/use hose storage.

have you tried an old tyre just feed hose in and if you mount it on the wall next to your tap you can feed the tap end behind the tyre and leave conected and just pull out what you need

we also have a nasty stiff old hose and I have a real phobia about unrolling it due to the difficulty of re rolling it. I will try the old tyre idea- I think that is brilliant!

Try looking round the back of warehouses in any industrial area near you. Sometimes you see empty wooden reels that cables are wound onto. They come in all sorts of sizes. But you will need to ask before you take them as they are sometimes returned.

The trouble with the wooden cable rolls is that it costs the company to hire them - so I'm pretty sure that they won't part with them. However if you speak nicely to our local building site they may have a plastic one kicking around - they usually come from the phone company or the electricity cable installers.
