It's a blue moon

Post: # 182137Post Rosendula »

I'm a bit behind with reading posts here so I don't know if anyone has mentioned it anywhere else, but
did you know it's a blue moon tonight? Next one isn't until August 2012 I think, so I thought it was worth a mention.

Didn't know it was blue but it is beyooootiful. We went up to castlerigg stone circle at keswick, still snowing up there and suddenly the moon appeared between the hills. HUGE and stunning. What a treat.

I just spotted the report on Yahoo, so we went out to look at it - very beautiful! I'm really pleased to have seen one.

Happy New Year everyone!
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free

It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

not just a blue moon, but there was also a partial eclipse tonight! How rare is that on a new year's eve.

Lovely photos.

A blue moon is the second full moon in a calendar month, so it doesn't happen very often - just once in a blue moon    Ahem, sorry. The last one was May 2007, then today (December 2009). Next ones are
August 2012
July 2015
January 2018 AND March 2018
October 2020.
I googled for the dates and got them from this site if anyone's interested.

I never actually got to see it because it was cloudy round here. Lovely photos Mullein. Do you always put your rubbish out in the graveyard? What on earth was in the bins?

We missed the partial eclipse because it was too cloudy, but our neighbours were able to see their way home by moon and snowlight without the aid of a torch (no street lighting here) at 2.30am. It was really bright.

Thanks Rosie, I hadn't heard of it before other than the saying 'once in a blue moon'.

 yep 'fraid so - no garden so we keep them round the corner in the graveyard

so i suppose it is our unofficial back garden...

I had it in my head that we weren't getting the partial eclipse in Scotland - lovely clear night here as well - gutted I missed it!

wow, didn't know it was a partial eclipse either!

Kept me up half the night beaming it's loveliness through the bedroom window ... oh that and coming up with hopelessly impractical plans to make crumpet rings out of old tin cans

The moon has brought some lovely :sunny: here, which is very welcome.

Still can't get over those photos! :salute:

Likewise when we made our way home from the village hall at 2.30am this morning - absolutely stunning, the loch was so still, the icing sugar on the hills, glistening, it was really bright - no torches needed - in fact it was much lighter than it had been when we set out for the evening about 8.30pm. You could just see that a wee corner slither of the moon was missing too...

Fabulous start to the year,

HNY to you all :thumbright:
