We're going to give our chicken house its first big clean and disinfect before the colder weather starts. What is recommended as a disinfectant? I have some milton which I bought for sterilising my demijohns - would that be strong enough?
Thanks, Jo

Give the whole thing a good blasting with a power washer if you have one, then paint it with non toxic preserver, then check for loose joints and wobbly bits, repair and repaint, you should be able to get this done in a day, if its not raining, but you might want to rehome the hens for the night? next day, spray with poultry shield, and dust the hens with a redmite/louse product, scrub the feeders, check all the runs posts and wire, if you have a permanent run you might want to dig it over and add lime, but keep the birds off it for a few days.
sit back and watch the birds make a mess of all your hard work within hours....

How often do you do a thorough clean of the chicken house?

Thanks for all the replies.
We've only had the chickens for 4 months and so far have replaced newspaper/straw about once a week - earlier if it looked like it needed it - and we remove any large areas of poo if there are any as we collect the eggs each day. I read somewhere that you should do a more thorough clean and wash every 4 months or so.
