Inspired by my use of an old wooden CD rack for a planter, I'm wondering what else I could use. Have any of you got any wacky containers?

two old toilet cisterns were in the back yard when we moved here - make quite good homes for alpine strawberries
a 'found' chipped/crazed belfast sink is home to parsley, thyme, purple sage, and lemon balm
a coal hod that went into holes in the base was planted with a shrub, but that got moved on - and now ferns have invaded it and seem quite happy

Not really wacky - but I'm using two double glazing packing boxes... They are like oversized wooden window boxes.

And my old wellies, of course.

I would love to have some of those huge Greek olive oil tins for growing geraniums in. They always look so lovely, or maybe it's just me being wistful of past holidays.

We have a painted blue chimney pot from a Notts coal mining estate sitting outside our Breton granite house. It looks like a crown on the top bit and certainly gets the locals wondering!

And they cost from approx £350-450 new!!!

I grew some spuds in an old kitchen bin, and the plastic container which fitted inside it!! Spuds came out great!!

I have grand plans for strawberries and kids old wellies. Will need to be next year now. I have a vision of a patch of boots and the kids picking the strawberries.

I've just been given some pallets that are long and narrow. I was thinking of turning them on their sides, lining with plastic and planting them up. If I do, I'll let you know how I get on.

Old plastic dustbin for potatoes.

Large paint tins.

Old wire lampshade, the type with a wire frame covered in fabric. Remove the fabric, wrap in chicken wire, line with an old feed bag or compost bag and hang up.

Old compost bags, turned inside out so the printed side is inside.
