i got the phonecall today, im goin to the plot on tuesday, and ive got a choice of 2!!!

Will they let you have both of them though?

ill try my hardest to persuade the biddy who owns the plots ;)

woop! got the key today, my nanny paid for the site but its in my dads name (cause hes old and gets it cheaper), its fairly big, i need to measure it. its overgrown.. has a dead tree to remove, brambles and things to chop and then grass to strim down. its ganna be a loooottttt of work to get it started, but we'll just do a small section at a time. its also on a slight slope, so we'll need to level some of it for a shed and a greenhouse.. the lady said we can put our apple tree and our apricot tree on it =D theres a small pond that we can keep or not. its got a communal water supply at the bottom of it, so water isnt an issue,, but we can have as many water butts as we like, and compost bins. i really meant to take photos, but forgot...

Congrats - sounds great and keep the pond if it is a wildlife friendly one!

we're going to check and see if anythings living in it, and if there is, then we'll clear it out and probably make it bigger.. it looks like a hole in the ground with plastic sheet as a liner atm, and i like tidy things =]

the lines show the approximate edges of the plot, its about 8.5m x 23m, so its a fairly big plot. the huuuugee mound of stuff towards the back is a dead tree, a helluva lot of brambles, thistles and nettles [bloody things], and theres a couple of blackcurrant plants mixed in with it all too. cleared a good chunk of it today, but need to get back there tomorrow and do more. behind the dead tree is an area that looks like it was used for a fire, theres a lot of rubbish there.. old timber, bricks and paint tins etc

the people who had it before us had a plum tree on site, apparently they only chopped it down on sunday!! *insert expletive here*

What a shame about the plum tree - is that it in the photo foreground? - but your plot looks pretty good! I've seen some real horrors that people have posted on here over the years!

that was the plum tree yea, its now been chopped up and the big bits will go to someones wood burning stove, and the smaller twiggys will be given to someone else on the allotments who said she could use 'em =]

Derry you might want to consider buring the tree for ash, it's good for the soil and since the plot is not exactly recently tended (cough!) it could be useful to improve soil quality..... and at least you'd get something from the tree even if its not plums.

And don't worry about the nettles, it's a sign of fertile soil....and they are great at accelerating composting, lots of nitrogen!

pretty much everything im clearing is going into green bags atm.. we dont have a compost bin on the plot, and the bins in our garden are too full for anymore stuff

OK I should read my posts- that should have said BURN the tree for ash! Sorry I hope you havn't been digging a hole to bury it I will feel very guilty
The ash has lots of minerals, really good for brassicas and legumes especially I'm told, and helps deter slugs too so I'm also told.

Nettles, alos great as nettle tea as a fertiliser- I have grown to love them, except when I'm weeding and I don't notice they are there.
