Rowan - the raw facts

OK - next time you're in a pub quiz and the question is asked, here is the answer.

A 30 feet high rowan consists of ...

15 feet of log-style trunk ideal for a wood burner.
40 feet of stout branchy material (the kind of stuff you keep in case it comes in handy some day).
One cubic metre (sorry for mixing the units) - yes, one whole sodding cubic metre of mixed minced rowan material - and if anyone wants to know, that weighs about 300000000000000000 kilograms.

Also ...

Sore hands.
Aching back.
Air tinged a pale shade of blue.

But now - the light streams through the window

You never know - it may crop up one day.

My twin sister's name is Rowan! I must show her this thread!

MKG As Rowans are closely related to Ash, it might just regenerate (sucker) so I'd recommend killing the stump by what ever means you see fit

Although the Rowan was considered by some as protection from faeries, others say that faeries love the tree and will go out of their way to seek it out. Some even say that anyone harming a Rowan tree runs the risk of faeries seeking revenge by causing illness.

Oops!!

Well ... getting rid of the tree was closely followed by a bout of swine flu ...

Maybe there's something in this fairy business. Are they any relation to the kitchen elves who take stuff from the worktops when you're looking for it and then put it back as soon as you look in the fridge?

I would imagine so. I got a fairly large tattoo on my back to protect myself (via homage) from the fairy that steals your underwear (pants and socks included in that!) just because she lost hers. So far, it has worked. For what it's worth though, I'm fairly sure it's aliens responsible for the teaspoons that go missing.

no, teaspoons are taken by the teaspoon monster. it eats them. especially the really small ones, the ones that are really nice for eating boiled eggs with. you never notice until you want a boiled egg.....
