It's not like it's my first time or anything, but it always feels like it is



I've been round and taken photos of everything that's growing, including the tiniest little seedlings. I really can't understand why OH isn't as excited as me. He does the most phoney oo's and ah's imaginable when I show him my pictures. At least I know yours will be genuine.

Ooooooo, aaaaaahhhhhh, my spuds look just like that and I keep having to admire them before the weeds come back again! Yes I spend a lot of time inspecting and admiring but more often it's the flower beds that I spend time just staring at in wonder, although I'm getting very hungry looking in my cold frames at the moment!!!

I keep telling my OH every time something germinates! He loves veggies too but I don't think he is quite so excited as I am, although when I 'let' him sow some rows of rocket and radishes one year (as I'd broken my foot) my goodness was he excited about it when they came up, something edible he'd actually grown HIMSELF I think he bored me to death talking about them. I really must let him do more (growing wise) than the dahlias, which are his babies.

I am a veggie virgin and will take some photos to share when it isn't pouring with rain!

My OH is the same - but at least he was upfront about it! When I first started talking about what I was going to grow, he said that he would help me with anything that needed doing, but wasn't really interested in getting involved in the planning etc. Fair enough. He then asked me a couple of weeks ago why we don't have any radishes - that would be because I (the one who planned & sowed everything) don't like them!

He has been very appreciative of our first salads this week though - home-grown rocket, lettuce and spring onion thinnings!

I can't wait to have crops like that... WOW!

I'm lucky my OH is as enthusiastic as me about being self-sufficient (if not more-so) but my ex couldn't have been any more indifferent so I feel your pain when you are all excited and your OH just turns around and says "oh... yeah... nice" in that... 'sod off I've got better things to do' tone of voice!

I have to take pics of everything, at every stage, and the first thing I do when I get back from anywhere is feed the cat then go and look in the garden. It is exciting to see seeds that you have planted yourself growing and changing all the time.
My OH used to have a bemused look on his face when I rushed in to tell him something had grown, or rang him or sent him photos of the latest radish to appear....but when he was over a couple of weeks ago, we found a really lovely little nursery and he bought me some strawberry plants and tomatoes, and on his return to Germany he has gone and bought some window boxes for his balcony and yesterday took a trip to the garden centre for some strawberrys!
