To freeze, or not?

Hi, all

Here in the southern hemisphere my first proper veggie garden is starting to really produce. I mentioned to hubbie that we might need to buy a 2nd freezer, so I can store lots of stuff for use in winter. He is wondering about the energy efficiency of that... Anyone know how much power a freezer uses in a year? In other words, is it more efficient to grow your own and freeze it, or would you be cheaper just buying stuff in? (my point of growing your own giving the satisfaction of knowing exactly what went into it aside, for now!)

Thanks!

Hi Df, its gotta be cheaper to freeze, than buy. Remember to keep your freezer as full as possible,(just by baulking it out with empty water containers, newspapers, etc, will do.) You can't beat the taste of home-grown food.

Dinnaefash! In the Southern hemisphere? Sounds like you are a long way from home.
