Sasperella

Does anyone remember Sasperella from their childhood? I dont know if it was just a "northern" thing to make. We lived in southern England then but visited my grandparents in Cheshire. My grandad used to make it for us.
Does anyone on here make it and have a recipe they could share? I have just aquired a (free) demi john and having never brewed anything before, alcoholic or otherwise, thought that I would like to give it a try.
