is it ok to put the ash and stuff from my allotment incinerator on the compost? we have quite clay-y soil so where its got in the fire it looks like fired clay! its not a kitchen waste compost, just general allotment green and woody stuff, so not actually expecting rich, quality compost or for it to break down quickly!

As long as it is wood/weeds (not coal or flammable liquids) you are burning it would be great for your compost - just make sure it has thoroughly cooled first.

Yep! Ash from incinerated garden rubbish is great for the compost,or can be lightly forked direct into the soil (& then watered in.) Ash from coal fires is a no-no as it contains too much acid, amongst other things.
