Pickled herrings, rolled up with strips of onion in vinegar - sometimes sweetened vinegar but they're not quite so good. My ma used to make big jars full. Oh and pickled eggs. I want a pickled egg butty now!

I can see this turning into a competition for the most extreme barfing smiley.

Mike

Oh - the fish is raw when it goes into the vinegar. The vinegar cures it, so it's no longer raw. A rollmop and a bit of cod roe makes a very nice breakfast (not forgetting the toast and Marmite).

Oh again - if you think rollmops are bad, you should see what the Dutch do at a new herring festival!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah yes but Mike, there is a world of difference between white fish 'cooked' in say lemon and lime juice where it turns white and looks cooked, and roll mops where they just look like rolled up raw fish.

I'm sure if I could stomach it, it probably wouldn't be as bad as it looks, but then worms and deep fried tarantulas probably don't taste as bad as they look.......

Did anyone hear the call for Sandi Toksvig to be banned if Marmite is banned?

I love that this particular thread looks like it's going to be the longest in the, 'I read the news today,' bit.

Rosey, it involves a hook attached to a wall or post and lots of pulling. Nuff said.

Banning Sandi Toksvig sounds like a good idea whether Marmite is banned or not. She is such a bigot. Her snarky comments about the Scots are the reason I don't even bother with the News Quiz on radio 4 anymore.

It's my mind, I think. Having nothing better to do, I Googled that phrase.

I got coal mines, towel racks, bull ringing, Hooke's Law, bathrooms, global warming, bodyweight and horse trailers. Not a sign of eel skinning (nor what I really thought would come up  )
