Broad beans and spinach seeds soaking [read somewhere about pre soaking spinach to aid germination, worth a try. Sweet peas later tonite. Planning on setting up heated seed trays in conservatory this weekend and covering/composting soil asap. Looking at what is left over from last year and what to buy for this....

Re: Seed sowing
Wow, two weeks only, my sweet peas have ALL grown, amazin' and my Rhubarb is up to 2 inches now, again good germination.
Bought seeds from Premier seeds direct off of ebay, must say the gemination is FANTASTIC, I thought it must be me, but its not, Wilkinsons and Lidl and Poundland seeds are not as good, based on this extenisive survey!
Next to plant Dill,Bronze Fennell, Sage, Rocket Wild, Lavender, Tarragon, Thyme, Hyssop, & Rosemarry.
Bring on the herbs!

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.

Re: Seed sowing
Do I take it those that are doing toms and peppers now will be leaving those in greenhouses?
Can I plant peas in the same place as last year?
Going to have to plant something soon, the sun is shining and its glorious outside

Re: Seed sowing
My toms and peppers are going in teh propogator then greenhouse, even in 'sunny' cambridgeshire I don't think they'd survive outside in Feb. I've done my peas in bog rolls in the greenhouse today, might stop the mice getting to eat most of them I hopechadspad wrote:Do I take it those that are doing toms and peppers now will be leaving those in greenhouses?

If you get a piece of plastic guttering and plant your peas in this you can then suspend this from the roof of your greenhouse and the mice can't get the peas.

I have got some guttering... it worries me the gh is a bit low anyway and I think my 6 ft hubby will end up knocking them onto the walls/floor- probably more dmaging than mice in the long runBig Al wrote:Peggy Sue wrote: I've done my peas in bog rolls in the greenhouse today, might stop the mice getting to eat most of them I hope![]()

I'm hopeful really coz every year til now they've gone striaght into the ground and I've just crossed my fingers (not all that effective) so this should be an improvement.

Re: Seed sowing
I find that seedlings have to be permanently under my nose otherwise they always miss that crucial bit of attention / watering. Growing peas in guttering and hanging from the roof of a greenhouse or polytunnel is a great idea, I tried it a couple of years, one year I forgot to water them when I was up the allotment and the next day it was hot and they fried, the next year I watered them, turned my back and the gutter collapsed on the floor. In theory it is a great idea but not fool proof .........

Re: Seed sowing
Well I couldn't wait any more. I hate pricking out and keeping things in trays all over the place so I have been patiently waiting.
I thought Feb 14th was a good day to pick on to remember, I know Jan 1 was too early historically and the end of April was too late!
So have 9 types of herbs, statice, Tomato & lettuce all gone in the propogator today.
Fun Fun Fun

Pricked them out March 1st, out them in the new plastic greenhouse, March 3rd - 4th All died!
Ow well, best start again, and remember this was too early, the frost in the green house for 4 nights on the trot was too much for the little lovelies.
