Lord knows, but I imagine some people need it after all the stress of organising a wedding. Only thing is the bride's mother ought to be going along too as she's probably done most of the work, oh and dad too as he's had the stress of paying for it all.

i think mum needs a break as shes making the wedding cake and shes stress by the whole thing already!
shes been coerced into making fairy cake type wedding cake rather than a standard tiered one and its giving her an enormous headache! as each one needs to be individually iced and decorated not to mention the top layer thats been insisted on so you can do the whole cake cutting thing

its a bit like this one http://www.blisstree.com/ouroneheart/bl ... ding-cake/

i might have to go and give her a hand with it as theres an awful lot to do! and its all going to be done only a few days before :pale:

i dont think she is, as shes having to do a quick run of it this weekend to iron out any kinks, so technically shes making TWO wedding cakes.

oh how i hate these over the top things! whats wrong with going back to basics eh?

Crikey, what a cake

Glad to hear you've sorted out the 'present problem'.

I had similar stresses with a few weddings a few years ago including my brothers and having lived through it, can see the funny side. I don't think I bought any of them a present in the end thought I'm not altogether sure. One friend was convinced I bought her some designer blown glass cocktail stirrers though I told her I didn't ... they are divorced now anyway.

Having spent years buying my brother's wife birthday & christmas presents which she never acknowledged, let alone thanked me for (usually expensive beauty nonsense that she likes & I couldn't afford) I gave up and stopped acknowledging her birthday.

For brother's wedding I was 'taken' shopping by my sis and ended up with a £80 dress on my credit card which didn't fit & I didn't like (straight to the charity shop after the event - my sister was most unimpressed with this :dontknow: ). My ex forgot his suit so ended up in a strange selection from county gents shop in the village and looked like a bus conductor  What with that and my ill-fitting designer dress teamed with doc marten sandals which had seen better days before I capsized a canoe in them and a tatty old cardi, I don't think they took any pictures of us (the bride was in Vivienne Westwood, bright red gown, so I reckon they could have subbed us some petrol money if they had made her train an inch shorter)

Just glad it's all over ... gawd help me if my sis ever gets married. Meannwhile we have been putting off getting married for 5 years as don't know how to cope with family coming!

When is the big day? Hopefully it will all be over soon without any major upset ... sometimes that's the best you can hope for xxx

its the end of next month on the 10 years to the day after they 'offically' got together

they are getting married so a sick relative can see them before you know :? they arnt with us anymore, thing is the relative has been sick since december 2008 and were told not to expect much and thought theyd do it sooner (get married) for obvious reasons but my sis thinks its romantic to wait until that date and the relative is now not able to come to the weddding :dontknow: because she waited so long and has decided on all this pretentious stuff including telling me i cant wear what ive chosen to ( im getting a dress based on its smartness for the wedding and the fact i can wear it afterwards too for various events )

the thing im most bugged about is shes making a big ( paris hilton !) style song and dance about wanting family to get on ( when they clearly dont and her s*** stiring is part of the reason) expecting way to much like shes some kind of celebrity ( when shes not) and making everyone feel guilty and stressed out way before the weddings even happened!

another sibling is refusing to go as well, weve been told we have to pay for our plus ones aswell :angryfire: not to mention changing everything from the hen night to the wedding venue and the reception several times and expecting us all to keep up! then announcing when the hen/stag dos are less than a week before leaving those that want to go ( my partner) unable to go as other plans had been inplace weeks before :angryfire: :banghead:

she even had the cheek to complain i didnt R.S.V.P yet she had failed to deliver the invite! instead leaving it up to my mum ( whos super busy ) :angryfire: :banghead:

cant wait till its been and gone to be honest as whatever happens she wont be happy as shes go very daft ideas on relationships and the like

i can then go back and hide in my ish hole till the next big family screw up!

appologies im being negative! ah i just cant wait till its over and she stops rabbiting on about her disney-fied view of the world :banghead:

Indeed.

Rant away as far as I'm concerned ... better out than in.

I've found with my bro that as we get older and both have partners similar to ourselves, our differences are more accentuated, plus we don't see each other very often so somehow it's still always a shock to realise how differently him and his wife think to me. But then I am a bit dim and generally forget the rest of the world doesn't think like me ... and never fail to be put straight

THis time of year's always a bummer for getting on with family I think (if you don't normally), as the weather means we're all stuck inside when we do visit. Aaargh

same here! i feel exactly the same. cant wait till march 1 st ( a lot of outdoorsy things are happening) and it means i get to get out and do stuff and not worry about all this nonsense!

im soo different from my family for example i have a house specificall for the garden and reguarly go foraging for exercise and food, my siblings have flats specifically to avoid the garden and consider walking round the shops exercise.

and its other things like i consider £15 a lot for a top ( even off ebay!) and for them its silly amounts ( £60 +) i swear i must have inherited every single ish gene going spare leaving them with none

still they have funny ideas about foraged blackberries ( darn well tasty imho) and rejected my home made jam for shop brought  cant wait for the big massive drop down to reality

like i said before i think i inherited all the good genes seeing as im first born and all

hopefully you wont be a bridezilla EB! love that word! for starters youve got all of us to knock you down a peg or too if you get out of hand  not that your that bad of course! and you already have all the ish ideas to keep it simple and stress free and i know from your posts it wont be pretentious ( my sister would have doves and swans and a string quartet given the chance but i dont think it would fit with her council house reception! )

well at least i have 6 weeks tops ( and counting) till its over.

and my mum whos making the cake is still having to buy a gift. :angryfire: i told her this morning that she shouldnt considering all the work that went in to the cake planning ( sh'd be paying approx £500 for a cake like that  from a specialist shop)

i remember last year for lo f2nd birthday there was all this hoo har because i decided not tho throw a party or have cake and just had dinner at mums.

certain ( well most members  ) have extremely high expectations and feel the need to throw money at stuff for it to be perfect ( taking too many tips from nu-labour!)

i STILL dont get why anybody in there right mind would go to disney land for their honeymoon  but then they are taking the little one so its not really a honey moon just a family holiday!

anywhos i now have to stress about the outfit, im tempted to go as a ghostbuster! just for a laugh and my son would love it ! but i know i would just get a b*****ing so off i go to find a dress :?
