I tried the teatowels ect at 60 and it wasnt a complete sucess, bearing in mind the fact that Boris will use them for mopping up spills on the floor!. So its either 90 wash and it is a full load or boil the things in an old aluminium stockpot to be sure of a result.He is at least putting them straight to the wash after a floor episode so I cant really moan too much .We have reduced our number of washes in a week and all wash the rest is at thirty.Seems ok so far even towels .

In what way not a success tiggy? I only ask as I do all our muslins (we use them instead of tissues), washing up cloths, tea towels, napkins, STs (when I'm not pg!), bathroom towels etc at 60 degrees with bio liquid and they're always fine. wondering now if they're actually really horrible in some way I haven't noticed!

I'll do nappies separately obviously, but I was going to do those at 60 as I did DD's. Should I not do that? Bit concerned now!

dear Mrs D Iam sure your washing is fine.Truly it is just the Boris factor that leads me to want to nuke stuff senseless plus the old fashioned ideas that lurk in my head like mental glue.I remember my Gran washing with wash copper ,dolly tub and mangle. whites were all given a real good work over and then had dolly blue in the final rinse, a nice line full every dry Monday. Wet Mondays were not so good with clothes horses and stuff drying on strung up lines in the back room.Boris is a good baker and brewer also a good cook but he isnt kind to the kitchen cloths, he has been stopped from wiping his shoes with the dishcloth , thank goodness! Our previous washing machine had a handy extra intensive 60 deg programme that used to deal with evil loads nicely but this one alas doesnt. I dont think you need to worry as you dont have the Boris factor to cause you laundry nightmares. Best regards Tiggy.

I have no idea who Boris is but he sounds intriguing!

Tried my first spin at 600rpm yesterday (as opposed to the usual 800rpm, originally reduced from 1400rpm that was fusing the whole house - there must be some correlation to enery used if that's the case!).

The load was a set of towels, they came out slightly damper but were in no way soaking. Wouldn't go any lower though. I think 600 is borderline for towels. Should be more than adequate and kinder to all other clothes etc.

I'd never thought about a slower spin working fine in sunny weather. Trouble is when it's on and off rain I never know where I'll end up putting the clothes, and I know from experience that slow to dry stuff can get a bit whiffy, so I've always spun things to within an inch of their life. I'm inspired now to bring it down by degrees and see how low I can go!
