There are some trial hemp farms in Dumfries and Galloway (for the clothing and cosmetics industries) They are a different type to the cannabis that gets you stoned - I am told that there is much hilarity when the local neds (chavs) steal bin bags of the stuff, not realising that although completely harmless they can still be done for possession

Not strictly true - it's the same species, but the variety has been specifically tailored to reduce the amount of funny substances. They're still there, but you'd have to smoke three or four plants at a time to get anything even like a vague blast.
Keep a look out for suspicious characters with extremely large spliffs!

I was under the impression that the active substance was in either the male or the female plant, but not both? Was that just an urban myth?
