I agree! Now if anyone finds anything that resembles a cockchafer grub in their compost...... leave it alone! The only grub that looks like that that is FOE is the cockchafer, which is usually found in veg patches/flower beds which have been recently dug where turf has been removed, and never in the compost heap!

Similar looking grubs are the rose chafer and the stag and lesser stag beetles which you'll find in rotting wood and also in compost heaps, and they should be left alone - I believe they are in decline in some areas.

I must admit I gave several icky bugs from the compost heap to the chooks until I found out they were good bugs! :oops:
