Giving up the car...

Far from me to joke about that... So many trousers get caught when you climb over barbed wire fences - one reason why I don't like them!

But I'm serious about that - there are a lot of spare boilersuits around at work, that are used by visitors and then left behind for me to do with what I like... Plus, I'd rather my hardly used trousers of slimmer times go to someone I know who really needs them, than ending up somewhere anonymous (or spending another 20 years in my wardrobe!). And it wouldn't be pink ones with frilly edges, either...

My son is applying now and can't walk more than 30m without pain and exhaustion due to CFS/ME but we are not holding our breath over the outcome.

Which makes me really mad when I see clearly able-bodied people putting their disability pass on the dash, and then DASH OUT of the car, to go to the gym, the launderette, whatever. These are people who can afford BMWs and so on!!

Sorry for going off-thread a bit.

How on earth did these people get a pass? If the councils have fewer of these fraudulent claims and users, those who are really in need would not have to fight tooth and nail to get their passes.

Or those people who can afford expensive cars should be deprived of these passes, I say.

LSP - I often have the impression that these "able-bodied disableds" just have somebody disabled in the family, and make the best of being able to "borrow" the car and pass whenever it pleases them... Often enough I see a disabled person sitting in the car, and their partner hopping out into the shop. Well, if they are so fit, they don't need to take up the disabled's car parking space, do they?!

That's the point! The purpose of the pass is that the disabled person, or the person driving the disabled could park at certain locations. If they are only sitting in the car, then it does not matter where they are parked.

Or is the disabled person in the car only as an excuse?

I know people who only use the passes when they actually are ferrying the disabled family member around. But there are those who hand out the pass to visitors, and other family members to avoid paying for parking.

I understand these passes are being exchanged on the black market for up to £500. (I heard something about this on the radio, but did not actually catch the full report.) The councils are losing revenue when these are used fraudulently. Meanwhile those who deserve the passes have to go without.

Makes me so, so cross.
