It worked just fine! Nine jars I got out of that, with enough extra to have with brioche and clotted cream as a celebratory cream tea :-)

Now for the labels.

Nice labels, Hedgie.

I got half a kilo of brambles yesterday, and a few sloes. Also a windfall apple from a neighbour's tree that had landed in the hedge and a ripe wild(ish) plum. As far as I'm aware there's no such thing as a wild plum, but there's a plum tree on a bit of wild land that could have started life as a sucker from a nearby garden.

I also got over a stone of damsons off our tree, and there are more to be picked in the next few days. We knew last spring it was going to be a bumper damson harvest - the blossom was amazing.

Hedge wizard, I take it that that is your house? What absolutely fabulous brickwork! Did you do the conversion? Love marrow and ginger jam btw too!

Yes Hedgie, you haven't told us if the builders have finally finished yet.

As for blackberries, picked 3 kilos yesterday but gave half to my neighbour.

I made some blackberry juice to drink as squash as well.

Next picking it'll be more bramble jelly, still desperately trying to eat up last years. :pale:

After that I'll probably throw up at the sight of them!

Another 2.5kg yesterday from the same bush and then I got bored and stopped. Open froze them, I'll make some more jelly and some blackberry whisky when I get some more jars!

Thanks - the builders have almost finished but having some difficulty getting them to come back after I threw them out when my OH was having her op! I didn't do the brickwork - the left hand structure was build as a coach house in 1880, the right hand one was added as a workshop in 1940 by which time the whole thing was a garage. The conversion was done on the cheap in 1983, and brought up to standard by me in 2006!

its a beautiful house hedgie!

Blackberries round here haven't been too good so far. The secret bush that i found didn't have a lot of very well formed berries on it. Might have to go find some more secret bushes!!
