I don't really understand what an open vented system is to be honest. This is how they work out here:

The fire has a water jacket.

The water runs around the system by a normal central heating pump, it cuts in and out when the themostat gets to whatever temp you set it at.

The system has an expansion tank at the highest point (loft perhaps) You don't have to do anything with this.

Mine has a boiler in the loop which heats the hot water, the boiler is also fed by the solar water tubes ont the roof. (the boiler is optional but it means that I don't have to pay for electric for water).

The expansion tank is only about 12-15 lts, i can't remember which one I brought.

In the other house we just had the rads and the fire and a manual switch for the pump. It worked great, we put in in in 2006.

I will take some pics to day and upload them for you. It is all pretty simple (it has to be for me).

Right, I read the instructions and apparently the pics need to come from a public server.

So I have added a page to the web site and plonked the pics on a new page. It's not pretty, but at least you get to see the photos.

You can see the water jacket on the base unit, the pump is just a normal central heating pump with three speeds, the boiler is interesting. It has two coils inside, one brings the hot water down from the solar tubes and heats the water inside the boiler by heat transfer, and the other comes from the fire, doing the same thing. It also has an emersion heater, I don't think we will be needing that!

The temperature gauge just tells you how hot the water in the water jacket is and the knob below allows you to set the temp that the pump kicks in. We set it at 40 on the advice of some other people and it seems to de well.
In the last house we had the same thing but without the boiler and without the thermostat. I have to say, it is simple, but it works a treat. Hope that helps.http://inbulgaria.co.uk/page1.html

I will get the web site of the fire company for you.

The boilers out here tend to come from Spain and the fire is made here. Anthing metal is well made here,

Replacing the curved brackets with square brackets will enable the code. Th image has to be hosted, and the image tags just need to be told where to look.
