Knit socks without grief?

Have you started knooking yet? Usual method for flat fabric: knit a row of stitches, slide them onto the cord, then knit from the cord, starting by going back into the last stitch you just knitted on the previous row. For knooking in the round, after you've slid the stitches onto the cord, knit into the other end of the row, making sure not to leave a length of yarn in between the end of one row and the start of the next, so that the fabric (well, row of stitches at this stage) joins up into a loop. This bit is tricky, but it gets easier quite quickly. As you continue, whenever you feel like it, pull the cord out from under the bit you've just knitted and slide the new stitches onto the cord, then pull the cord through a bit so you have plenty of slack to work with.

I hope that makes sense. I'm sure Durgan's right and I should illustrate it with lots of pictures, but that would mean quite a lot of work and I'm sorry, but I don't have time right now - I'm supposed to be just taking a quick break from lifting floorboards! Zech I was so impressed with the speed of your knooking that I had to give it a go. I think the cord I'm using is far too short but the lovely bamboo hooks will arrive soon I hope, in the mean time I will keep practising. I found the link on the Ravelry knooking group, searching ebay UK only brings up a set with wacking great postage.

Hooray! Finally, a good six months since my first post, I have finished the darn socks!

I would like to dedicate them to Suzie and Snapdragon, thanks for your help.

Admittedly, they aint perfect...but now I have done it once, I am confident I could do them again - might make them a bit longer this time, these are a bit like ankle socks.

And it isn't that hard!! Yay.

Honestly MMM, and I can say this with the knowledge that it is absolutely the truest thing ever spoken (or typed) - if I can do it, you can do it. I am the slowest, most angsty, beligerant knitter that ever lived. I have abandoned 5 knitting projects for the one that I have finished...I really WANT to be a good knitter, but something tragic happens between brain and fingers.

Don't you have to do socks with 4 little double ended needles? That's why I think complicated, though nowhere near as complicated as I imagine gloves to be!

it's really easy. I made some of them before, and they are so comfy! The socks are quite thick because it's bulky wool, but that's the only wool i've found for sale round here.

I'm knitting another pair at the moment and i'm going to make them knee-length.

I can't be doing with DPNs, they drive me crazy and i end up stabbing myself...
