I do have a round lrge tub I ould bury if I find a suitable spot. but what plants needed etc?

Any half-decent garden centre would have a selection of pond plants. We just bought a fairly random selection we liked the look of.

We put them in supermarket baskets weighted with stones with mesh over the top; the ducks would eat them otherwise...

I'm surprised you have slugs being in Spain where I imagine it is a pretty dry climate. I don't have a slug problem and our soil is so dry here anyway they would dry out trying to cross it as it's only rained properly once in the last 6 weeks.

I've used those nematodes for the last 2 years. They're not cheap but they really work, good for the small black slugs that live under the ground that other methods struggle to control. The cheapest ones I've found are from Gardening Naturally . com

Lucky you!........ we have had LOTS of rain in last couple of months. . and I thought Brittany was meant to have quite a wet climate!

I can´t recognise many insects ( or plants! ) but I do know a slug when I see one, and I definitely have them in my garden! ( and even 1 in house a few weks ago! they always seem to manage to find somehwere damp to hide out ( especially under all the pots!

Another vote for biological warfare with nematodes here - but, yeah, they're not exactly cheap, and you do need to apply them regularly for maximum effect. At least, you do on my allotment...

Maybe I'm a bit confused, but I seem to remember being at some RHS lecture ,long ago,and some old fart was going on about good slugs,and bad slugs,cant remember which was which,but it might be trelevant.

That's probably the leopard slug (the BIG buggers). They prefer eating decaying material and other slugs. That's the good part. However, they will happily destroy your crops if there's nothing else around.

If you have a slug problem, leave the leopard slugs alone. If you don't have a slug problem, then leopard slugs can start one.

Overall, they're more good than harm.

Only some parts of Brittany - it's a large area with very different climates and rainfalls!

i am declaring war on my in-the-house slugs. we are in an old end terrace house as i said and thanks to you fine folks i have checked and found 4 ventilation bricks which i have swept around and salted thoroughly, so it's on now! i'll check in the morning, and frankly if all i have to do is reapply salt every few dry days or after rain, i'll be sorted becasue currently i'm hoovering and carpet shampooing far too often!!! :D
