I did the survey on the vote for policies website, looked at the results and voted accordingly. Well done Caroline Lucas btw, I like her, think she's a good speaker from what I've seen of her in interviews.

I come here to get away from the election. It's the only thing on the TV. There's obviously been no other news all weekend apart from the VE day celebrations and even that was used to make comments about the election.

Personally, I think political parties should be banned. MP's should stand as independents and vote on each issue according to what is best for their constituency not just because their boss tells them what to do.

Having never experienced a hung parliament before, I somewhat naively asked my dad how it worked.

'well..' he said 'without an overall majority, government would be made up of MP's from various constituencies accross the country who got the most votes. They would then come to parliament, and because there is not a majority, the parties would have to agree between them on the best way forward, taking into account all of their distinct ideologies. No one party would be able to force through what they happen to think is the right thing to do, without taking into account the view of the others and getting them to vote for it'

Duh...sorry to be crap, but isn't that a much more democratic way of doing things anyway?

Simple answer, Bonnie - yes it is. And it's a dead cert that if we went to a Single Transferable Vote system of PR, this is what would happen 99% of the time - hence the reluctance of the major parties to go for STV. Too many dyed in the wool dogmatists in politics, though.
